Canadian Gaming Association demands to open casinos in Ontario
Representatives of the Canadian gambling and tourism industry have urged the officials to advise on the safe opening of casinos and other tourism establishments.
President and CEO of Canadian Gaming Association Paul Burns said that casinos in such provinces as Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan have reopened in compliance with health and safety regulations imposed with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in Ontario – the most populous province of the country, resuming operations of the gambling venues is expected no earlier than July 21. This is despite the fact that the province has the highest vaccination rate.
Burns drew attention to the fact that about four thousand employees of the gambling industry have been unemployed since March 2020. At the same time, their colleagues from other provinces have already returned to their jobs. He also noted that three casinos in southern Ontario attract more than 12 million visitors annually, a quarter of which come from outside of the province.
